While I have a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Chicago, I have not, for good reasons, pursued an academic career.  While I love scholarship, I find I have no affection for academics, since academics turns the life of the mind into a species of real estate.  But I have always written essays that inhabit the borderline between culture and politics.  While I consider myself a creature of the left, much of my work tends to be a left-wing criticism of rhetorical diseases I find in standard left-wing commentary.  I offer these essays for your reading pleasure.
